8.4 Business Career?
Are you thinking that the best preparation for a career in business would be a bachelor's degree in business?
The Washington Post disagrees
A prominent U.S. newspaper, The Washington Post, explains why a bachelor's degree in a traditional academic field is probably a better choice:https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/01/28/business-is-the-most-popular-college-major-but-that-doesnt-mean-its-a-good-choice/?utm_term=.aa8ddd59eefa

Education is Europe is still very much geared to an apprenticeship model, which means that one's choice of college major points clearly to one's first job after the bachelor's degree.Nevertheless, you would do well to think about the thousands of students leaving German universities with a "BWL" degree. How will such a degree differentiate you in a competitive job market? In my view--especially if you are applying to a U.S. university--you would be better served by a degree in a solid academic subject, plus an MBA.As The Washington Post article explains, "Students majoring in business spend less time studying than anyone else on campus. . . They also spend less time reading and writing than other majors."For these reasons, an undergraduate degree in business is less respected than a more demanding degree. There are a few--a very few--exceptions, such as the undergraduate degree in business offered by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. But don't take my word for it.
