10.8 Stressed out waiting for colleges to decide? Do this!

It's March! Any day now, applicants will hear back from colleges and universities to which they applied. It's a super stressful, super busy time of the admissions year. So what am I doing reporting from the gym?

March is a tough month for all of you in the final years of secondary school. Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams are on the horizon.
Added to all that is the stress of waiting for colleges to reply to your applications! Perhaps you already have the security of acceptances from some of the U.K. or U.S. colleges to which you applied. Perhaps you'll hear any day now. Some of you are waiting for "Ivy Day," the one day late in March on which all eight Ivy League universities post their decisions on their online portals. If you find it hard to concentrate on studying, that's understandable! But you must find ways to prevent yourself from getting so paralyzed with anxiety over college decisions that you can't do your best in this final stretch of secondary school. My advice? Go to the gym! You don't have to be a varsity team member or have any special skills. Most off us can handle a treadmill or simple arm exercises. Yoga helps, whether you take a class or practice on your own. If you prefer the calming effect of nature or the distractions of the city, get out for a long walk. It sounds dorky, but there's no better way to burn off that excess adrenaline then to get moving.Even I do it, as you can see in the video above. Yes, I too get worked up waiting for my students to hear back from colleges. It's an emotional time for everyone: you, your parents and families, and even for us here at Athena Mentor.
