The University of Oxford offers Open Days for prospective students. Dates are announced well in advance, and are typically in July and September. In 2019, Open Days will be held on July 3 and 4. The summer dates are usually more convenient for visitors from abroad, and will give you a chance to process what you learn, before applications are due in early autumn.Summer weather is likely to show the colleges to their best advantage! But please remember that you are not there solely for the architecture tour.Plan the academic aspects of your visit in detail. Follow the advice on the Oxford website and research your field of study carefully before you arrive. Choose colleges that offer the course you wish to study. This is your chance to ask questions about that course; questions that cannot be answered by reading the information on the website. You should also research life at the colleges you are considering. How large is each of those colleges? Where are they located? What kind of personality does the college have? Once you arrive in Oxford, you will realize that the colleges are independent entities, and quite different from one another. It's best to start learning about these differences in advance.Oxford also strongly recommends that you familiarize yourself with the application process before you visit. Here are their "Top 10 Tips for getting the most out of your Open Day":http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/open-days-and-visits/planning-your-dayAthena Advises you to visit on an Open Day, when the subject departments, colleges and even individual tutors are waiting to welcome you and answer your questions. If you cannot come on an Open Day, you can still visit Oxford on your own. Information for visiting outside of Open Days can be found at:https://www.ox.ac.uk/visitors/visiting-oxford?wssl=1Note that while you can book rooms in college on your own, there may be limitations, such as a minimum age; and many colleges rent rooms to visitors only during times when college is not in session.Don't wait!
