Are you California dreaming? I hope your application is ready!
Just about every year, I hear of a student whose dream school is one of the campuses of the University of California.
"Berkeley is awesome!"
"UCLA for film school!"
"Anywhere on the coast! Santa Barbara! San Diego! Santa Cruz! Irvine!"
I can well understand your enthusiasm. Academic prestige coupled with the fabled climate and laid-back culture of California--who wouldn't want to go?
There are two problems.
- Admission to these universities is more competitive than you may think. Look up the statistics! Don't be fooled by fantasies of surfing your way to a B.A. And by the way, take a look at the coastline of California. It's a long, long way from the surfer south to the foggy hills of San Francisco.
2. Do you know when the deadline is? This year, as in years past, the University of California is accepting applications between November first and November 30.
That's right. Get your application in by November 30!
Do it now, because the leading campuses of the University of California really are that cool.
