9.11 $30,000.00 scholarship for a doodle!

Do you doodle? Google is looking for you!Every year, Google runs a doodle contest for young people. Submissions are judged in the following grade categories:

  • K-3
  • Grades 4-5
  • Grades 6-7
  • Grades 8-9
  • Grades 10-12

The National Winner gets a $30,000.00 college scholarship, a trip to San Francisco--and $50,000.00 in value toward a computer lab or technology program at the secondary school in which they are enrolled. And of course, the winning doodle is featured on the Google website! There are also prizes for the National Finalists and the 48 State and Territory Winners. Note: contestants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and there are rules about the eligibility of schools. Details can be found on the Google website.Next year's contest has not yet been announced, but now you know to look for it! And by the way, anyone is free to submit doodles to Google outside of the contest. This year's prompt for the scholarship contest was: "What inspires me?"

Check out the gallery of this year's State and Territory Finalists at:https://doodles.google.com/d4g/vote.htmlWere you amazed at the creations of even the smallest children? Did you look at the doodles of young people your own age and think, "I could do that?" Well, now's your chance! Let the other kids' creations inspire you!Vote! Show your support for your fellow students by voting for your favorite doodle in each age category. Think about it: if Google sees that the contest is wildly popular, it will consider the scholarships as marketing money well spent. The act of voting may not benefit you directly, but it may help student artists. My advice to you is: Whatever your field of interest or whatever your talent, you should get into the habit of competing. Get your work out into the world! And in this case, you might win a $30,000.00 scholarship.
