The summer, get to know the political system of your home country. Get involved and get involved now. Political campaigns don't just materialize in the two weeks before an election. A successful campaign begins months or even years in advance. The political organizations of your choice can use your help right now!You don't even need to lobby for a particular candidate or cause. You can help mobilize your generation by supporting civic education as such, or simply increasing voter turnout. The Pew Research Center has documented that in the United States in 2018, "59% of adults who are eligible to vote are Gen Xers, Millenials or 'post-millennials.'" There were 57 million eligible voters in these categories—and yet they cast only 37 million votes, which is 21 million fewer than their elders. You can change that! If you are a U.S. citizen, you can volunteer with other young people at rockthevote.org. If you are a citizen of another country, look online for further information. If you live outside the country of which you are a citizen, contact your country's embassy or consulate. Are you looking for ways to link your extracurricular activities to your academic research? There is lots of data available on voter registration. Do the math! If history is more your thing, consider that one of the driving forces of the civil rights movement in the United States was voter registration. Google "Freedom Summer 1964." Many key players were college students, not much older than you are today.Search on Google for many other opportunities, not only in the United States!Dr. Marlena CorcoranFounder and CEOAuthor of Year by Year to College, on amazon.com, amazon.de and many national amazon sites
