6.20 : Warning: test centers are filling up
Deadlines are not the only problem
Alarming news has been trickling in from college applicants overthe past couple of months. They report that when they log on to register for the ACT or SAT Tests, SAT Subject Tests or even the TOEFL, test centers near them are no longer taking registrations. They're full.It used to be that you could wait until rather close to the deadline for signing up, and seats would still be available. But too many students are finding, to their dismay, that the test centers nearest them are turning students away. This is of special concern to international students, because there may not be many test centers close to your home that are offering the test you'd like to take on a given date. Schools and other institutions are not required to offer the tests, and it's not especially convenient for them to do so.You could find yourself traveling to a nearby city--or even a bordering country--to find a seat.
Athena Advises
Sit down with your school guidance counselor or a trusted advisor and create a strategic plan for which tests to take and when to take them. If you are applying this fall and have waited until now to line up the required test scores, you will discover that this is no easy task.
Face it now! Think about the big picture, and not just the next thing in front of your nose!
If you find yourself in trouble, do not despair. Ask your counselor how to sign up for the wait list--and especially, how to maximize the chances that you will be seated on test day. One of our students just managed to squeeze into the very last seat! Hurray!
